As we all know, as a general plastic variety, polypropylene (PP) is widely used in automobile bumpers, interior and exterior trim (door panels, instrument panels, etc.), appliance housings, and daily necessities. The annual output of PP in China even exceeds PE (polyethylene) . However, PP has the disadvantages of poor low temperature toughness and large notch sensitivity. Therefore, in order to improve the shortcomings of PP performance, toughening modification is an effective way.

At present, POE is commonly used as a toughening agent ; however , POEs on the market currently have a single grade that cannot balance high toughness and high fluidity: the pursuit of POE toughness requires sacrificing fluidity; emphasizing fluidity requires reducing toughness. It is required that a single grade of POE cannot take into account both toughness and liquidity. In addition, POE toughened PP often has poor bending and tensile properties, as shown in the data in Table 1.

Even tough brand dendritic toughener is a dendritic polyolefin elastomer, which has a certain branch structure, so it has characteristics that other polymers do not have.

"Why can dendritic tougheners improve both the toughness and flowability of PP?";

1. The flexible polyolefin long chain segment in the dendritic toughener product plays a role of coupling and buffering between the molecular chains;

2. A large number of flexible long-chain functional groups on the surface of the dendritic toughener can more easily form a spatial three-dimensional network structure through molecular interactions in the system;

3. The dendritic toughener has a space-spherical structure, has a smaller hydrodynamic radius, and exhibits significant low melt viscosity characteristics, which can greatly improve the melt flowability of polyolefin materials such as PP.

Compared with traditional POE, the dendritic toughener has better dispersibility, and the rigidity of some formulas is greatly improved. As shown in Table 2 below, the flexural modulus can be increased by up to 70% and the tensile strength can be increased by more than 10%.
